Kaafu Atoll, more officially known as Male’ Atholhu is an administrative division in the Maldives with the Dhivehi letter code: K. The Atoll consists of the geographical Atoll Kaashidhoo Island, Gahaafaru Atoll and the divided Male’ Atoll (which includes North Male’ Atoll and South Male’ Atoll). Although the Capital City of Maldives, Male’ are located in North Male’ Atoll, it is not a part of the administrative atoll: Kaafu.
Kaafu Atoll is made up of 107 coral islands of which 10 are inhabited by the local Maldivians with the capital being Thulusdhoo Island, whilst the largest prison in the island nation is set on Maafushi Island. Almost all of the islands that were once uninhabited have now been and are being developed into tourist resorts, with the most number of resorts located in this division of Maldives. Kaafu Atoll is also home to multiple famous dive sites such as; Banana Reef, Manta Point, Kuda Giri Wreck, Maldives Victory Wreck, Girifushi Thila, and lots more. Most of the popular surf breaks are located in Male’ Atholhu as well.
