ADDU ATOLL RESORTS COLLECTION
Addu City, Geogrphically known as Addu Atoll (previously called Seenu Atoll) is an administrative division in the Maldives that is located in the southernmost region of the archipelago. One of the two cities in Maldives, Addu City icomprises of four districts; Hulhudhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo, and Hithaadhoo. There are multiple uninhabited islands in Addu City, including Gan Island where Gan International Airport is set on. Moreover, there are two tourist resorts currently operating in the Atoll: Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, and Herathera Island Resort.
In 1887, the Maldives became a British protectorate which lasted for about 78 years. During this period, the British Military established a secret Naval Base on the Island of Gan, which was referred to as “Port T” throughout the Second World War. The remains can still be seen by visiting the site at Gan Island. In addition to that, there are numerous dive sites in Addu Atoll as well which are interesting to explore such as; British Loyalty Wreck, and many spots where you can encounter Manta Rays, Sharks, Sea turtles, soft and hard corals, and multiple other marine life.
